The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has decided to recommend a ban on an extremist group to the federal government. During a law and order meeting, it was resolved that those involved in hate speech, violence, or lawbreaking will be arrested immediately. The group’s leaders will be added to the Fourth Schedule, their assets seized, bank accounts frozen, and social media pages blocked. The government also issued a one-month deadline to surrender illegal weapons and approved stricter penalties—including up to 14 years in prison for unlawful arms possession.

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to recommend a ban on an extremist group to the federal government following a high-level law and order meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Immediate Action Against Hate Speech and Law Violations

The meeting decided that individuals involved in incitement, hate speech, and lawbreaking will be arrested immediately.

Punjab Govt Seeks Ban on Radical Group

According to the official press release, Punjab will formally advise the federal government to impose a ban on the extremist organization.

Leadership to Be Added to Fourth Schedule

The leadership of the banned group will be added to the Fourth Schedule under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Cases will be registered against all those involved in killing police officers and damaging government property.

Seizure of Properties and Media Ban

All properties and assets of the extremist organization will be taken over by the Auqaf Department.
In addition, posters, banners, and advertisements of the group will be completely prohibited across Punjab.

Social Media, Bank Accounts, and Loudspeaker Restrictions

Authorities will block the group’s social media accounts, freeze all bank accounts, and take strict action under the Loudspeaker Act for spreading hate or creating unrest.

Crackdown on Illegal Weapons

The Punjab Home Department has issued a one-month ultimatum for citizens to surrender illegal weapons.
During this period, all legal firearms must be registered at designated service centers.
Inspections of arms dealers’ stock have been ordered, and the issuance of new arms licenses has been completely suspended.

Stricter Laws and Penalties Approved

The Punjab government has also recommended that the federal government regularize arms factories and tighten manufacturing controls.

Maryam Govt Targets Extremist Group in Punjab

Possession of illegal weapons will now be treated as a non-bailable offense, carrying a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment and a fine of up to PKR 2 million.
